In lifting applications, a safety factor of 4:1 indicates that the chain’s breaking load is four times its Working Load Limit.
The Working Load Limit defines the actual safe operating capacity of a lifting product. Even if the product can hold more weight before breaking, any weight exceeding the WLL falls outside approved safe operating parameters.
The safety factor is not extra lifting capacity. Instead, it serves as a safety buffer to account for on-site risks, including shock loading, component wear and uneven force distribution.
